Annie Jane Goode Wood “Granny” age 103, gained her heavenly wings peacefully Wednesday, July 5, 2017. She was a lifelong native of Madison County and daughter of the late John Robert and Ellen Dudley Goode. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Henry Wood, daughter; Mary Ellen Woody, step-children; Florence Cook, Opal Huskey, John, Paul and Joe Wood, sister; Mary Brooks, brothers; George, Elbert, Earl and Vernon Goode, three grandchildren and four sons-in-law.
Granny lived on her own until age 101 and was a lifelong member of Fairview United Methodist Church. She was employed with the Older American Program through the US Forest Service. Retiring at age 89. She was also a Breast Cancer survivor.
She is survived by her daughters; Iris Moore (Loren), Patricia West, Betty Holt (Larry), Carolyn Ammons, Abigail Norton, Ruth Ownbey and son H. C. Wood, Jr. (Barbara), 21 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 26 great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, July 8, 2017 in the Fairview United Methodist Church. Reverend Randy Wood and Missy Wood will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 5 – 7pm Friday, July 7th in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service.
